11. Year 2017 has come and it may need some strategic changes in your Money matters. Economics Times has come up with some suggestions. Sharing my quotes along with other experts.

10. “Spending and saving does not go hand in hand. If saving is for future use, then spending is for present use, and both are important,” said Shilpi Johri, a certified financial planner and head-financial planning, Arthashastra Consulting. Hence, a balanced approach is needed. Here’s a look at how best to use the money.
Unnecessarily compromising your present for the sake of future is also not healthy. It makes people feel miserable,” said Johri.
“However, in the past few years, the cost of medical treatment has increased tremendously. And in many cases, the government does not provide full benefit or reimbursement. Therefore, some provision for such gaps should be made,” said Johri.
For newer government employees, pension is contributory under the National Pension System (NPS). “So the scenario has changed. They should plan accordingly,” she said.

9. “Write down each and every expense, however small. An easy way to keep a record is to click a photo of each receipt on your mobile immediately, and refer to it later. By doing so, we are able to track down the ‘leakages’ in our expenditure outflow. Also, it will help us know which expenditure head needs to be controlled,” said Shilpi Johri, head, financial planning, Arthashastra Consulting, a Gurgaon-based financial advisory.
“The percentage formula can be helpful only if someone has observed her expenditure pattern for at least a year,” said Johri.
“Variable expenditure can be both discretionary and non-discretionary. Discretionary usually includes vacation planning, home decor, clothes, among other things. Since there are various products available in the market in all categories, a good idea is to allocate an amount beforehand,” said Johri.
